Its Not Your Business.
It's Not Your Business... It's you! Yea, I said it, It is you. Your business model is not why you cant make money. Think about it, what is the dumbest product you can think of? Now think, It is a product, and it sold. How about a PET ROCK, what, are you kidding me. It sold, because it was marketed. People don't buy things. They are "sold" things. Your children are the best examples of "being sold". From the most mundane, to the absolutely needed. For example, is it by accident that a 5 year old in a cartoon has a cell phone? If you do, then you should probably stop reading this, and go get a job at the local big box retailer. Look at what the people are buying. You will see the connection between your TV programing ,(I love that phrase, lets say it together TV PROGRAMING) and what people are buying(being sold). Books are written about this subject, so we will touch it briefly here. First a product is created. It does not matter the product, it could be a pet rock. Then the need has to be introduced. Not with force, that just turns people defensive, using emotional triggers. We are talking about needs here, and people are emotional, even the men. Great examples of the "need lead" are found in all those capture pages online. They start with, "How I made a million in 2hrs", "I will show you how". Well, you need money right? You need to be shown how, right? (getting this yet?) You keep reading, lets follow the the process. " I was living in my car with my 3 kids, eating canned soup. Then I discovered what it was I needed to change my life." So in the above, you are thinking, "I don't live in a car. I am starting out in a better place." But you know you want or need to change your life. So again, you keep reading. You need to know how they did it. They put in a little back story that explains how they got there, what they were looking for, and then WHAMO! They discovered the secret! You connected with the writer, you want to know how, no, you need to know how. But first, a few testimonials, just for confirmation. The same way you ask your neighbor about something you have been sold on, before you buy. Then a little teaser information, you know what I mean, "I will show you... I will teach you..." "Just today, I am offering... Because I really want to help you succeed" The good pages just ask you to fill in a short form, email, name, ect. You have just been sold! You quickly check your email, OMG, they got right back to me. You open it, breathe bated, whats the secret? (Are you getting any of this yet?) The secret? Seriously? It is... going to cost me $29.95? Its not a "secret", Its a formula, an understanding of how people buy. There is a problem, or a need. There is a solution, or benefit. There is a sale. That formula is called marketing. If you try to sell your product, service or company, you had better be a sales professional. So few people have that skill. It is much easier to learn marketing. In the above example, you were sold with out even knowing what the product was. Thats called marketing. So, in case you missed it, need + benefit = sales. Clearly there is more to it, the mechanics of it is a closely guarded secret. Only the ones in the know can profit from it. ( in case your not familiar with sarcasm, that was a joke) I will go into more in later posts, thanks for reading.
